New Information Released Regarding Recent Fatal Traffic Accident in Grant County

New information has been released regarding a fatal traffic accident which occurred on Tuesday, August 22nd in Grant County.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the accident occurred at around 4:45 p.m. on a gravel road north of Milbank.

Investigators say a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer was traveling northbound when the driver lost control and entered the west ditch where the vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest.

A passenger, 15-year-old Makenzie Pies of rural LaBolt, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver and two female passengers, all 14-years-of-age, along with a 17-year-old female passenger, each sustained minor injuries.

Funeral services for Makenzie Pies will be held on Monday, August 28th at 2 p.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank.

The Mundwiler Funeral Home of Milbank is in charge of the arrangements.

The family is requesting monetary assistance to help cover Makenzie’s funeral expenses.
