A rural Grant County family is trying to find out why several calves on their family ranch were recently shot by an unknown person or persons using a low caliber gun.

Kristin Kowalski and her family manage about 200 head of cattle on their ranch located near South Shore.

Family members say five calves have been shot within the past two weeks. Although the calves didn’t die immediately, they say their wounds were serious enough to lead to a slow painful death within a matter of just a few days.

The family says they contacted the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, but at this point in time, there’s not much the office can do since no one actually witnessed anything unusual taking place.

In the meantime, the family says they are offering a reward for any information which may help lead to the apprehension and arrest of the person or persons responsible for the recent shootings.
