Milbank School District General Fund Account Remains Adequate at this Time

The Milbank School District has always prided itself on maintaining a positive fund balance in its overall general fund account. At this week’s meeting, the Milbank School Board took a serious look at the general fund, as well as what lies ahead for the remainder of the current fiscal year. Superintendent Tim Graf noted that at this time its too early to know for sure how the district will fare from an overall financial perspective at the end of the current fiscal period. Although there always uncertainties, he noted that the district’s cash reserves remain adequate at the present time.

In other business, the board approved the first reading of a policy outlining how criminal background checks are conducted with the second reading of the policy to take place in January.

The board also approved a combined election agreement between Grant County, the City of Milbank, and the Milbank School District. The combined election will be held on June 5th of 2018.

In another matter, the board authorized the purchase of a 2018 Chevy Suburban from Unzen Motors of Milbank for the amount of $43,650.

In personnel matters, the board approved the hiring of Adolph Shepardson as head high school football coach for the 2018 season. He replaces Jeremy Tostenson, who recently announced his resignation after overseeing the Bulldog football program for 16 seasons. The board also approved the hiring of Magen Robinson as a new kitchen staff employee in place of Becky Johannsen who recently transferred from the kitchen staff to the custodial staff.
