The city of Milbank has taken the final step involved with budgeting money required to help pay for a proposed housing development project which is now beginning to take shape in the south part of the community. At last (Monday’s) night’s meeting, the Milbank City Council approved the first reading of ordinance 812, the 2018 supplemental budget. The action transfers $100,000 from the fund balance to accommodate J & J Land Sales for costs involved with installing new curb and gutter and the first lift of asphalt pavement for a new street leading into the Valley View housing area. J & J Land Sales, in turn, would be held accountable for completing the final lift of asphalt when either 13 lots have been sold or by the summer of 2021, whichever comes first.

In a related matter, the council approved a new street specifications and acceptance policy which better outlines certain guidelines which are to be implemented when it comes to future street development within the community.

In another matter, the council adopted a resolution formally establishing the recommended salaries for all Milbank city employees for the year 2018.

The council also approved a new contract with First District Incorporated for general maintenance and hosting of the city’s GIS website for the coming year.
