A Waubay man will spend time in jail for his involvement in an area drug case during the past year.

Twenty-eight-year-old Cody Gill was sentenced this week in Grant County Circuit Court to three years confinement in the South Dakota State Penitentiary with the entire term being suspended under the condition that he pay any fines and court costs associated with the case. In addition, it was ordered that Gill be placed in the Grant County Jail for a period of 60 days, effective January 12th, with credit being
given for time previously served.

It was further ordered that he be placed on supervised probation for a period of three years.

The case stems from a traffic stop initiated by Grant County sheriff’s deputies in May of last year on Highway 12 near Big Stone City, at which time approximately four pounds of high grade marijuana was seized.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jordin Gill of Waubay was sentenced in Grant County Circuit Court in November for her involvement in the same case. Gill, who was pregnant at the time of her sentencing, was initially confined to her home for a period of 30 days while waiting to give birth. Gill was also placed on probation for a period of three years and she was further ordered to pay a fine, along with court costs and restitution.
