A semi-truck driver escaped injury this (Friday) morning when he lost control off his vehicle while traveling along a frost covered stretch of Interstate 29 in Roberts County.

However, a messy situation developed when two empty trailers attached to the semi cab began to veer out of control after the semi left the roadway.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, 61-one-year-old Randal Myers of Dilworth, Minnesota was driving a 2015 International Semi-truck on Interstate 29 south of Peever when he attempted to pass another vehicle, at which time he lost control of the semi. The front trailer of the semi then struck and slid over the top of a guardrail while the second trailer detached and flew over an embankment before coming to rest on a road below.

The driver of the semi was examined at the scene by Wilmot first responders, but did not require medical attention.

The accident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
