St. John to Run for South Dakota District 1 House Seat

Tamara St. John, a life-long resident of South Dakota has announced she is running for an open position in the South Dakota legislature. St. John is a candidate for the District 1 position in the South Dakota House of Representatives.

The position is currently held by Susan Wismer of Britton who will be stepping down to run for the State District 1 Senate seat currently occupied by Jason Frerichs of Wilmot, who will not be seeking re-election.

St. John was born and raised in northeastern South Dakota and is also a member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Tribe. St. John currently serves as an historian and genealogist and is also an archivist for the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribal Archives and Collections.

She also is a member of the South Dakota Humanities Council Board of Directors and recently was awarded a certificate in cultural heritage tourism from George Washington University. St. John has four children and currently resides in Sisseton.

House District 1 includes Day, Marshall, Roberts and the northern part of Brown County in South Dakota.
