Winter Storm System to Affect Western/Central/Southern Areas of South Dakota this Weekend

An approaching winter storm system is expected to affect much of South Dakota heading into the upcoming weekend. Although Milbank and areas to the north are not expected to be impacted by the latest storm system, areas to the south of U.S. Highway 212 could see anything from freezing rain to moderate amounts of snowfall according to Mike Connelly, a forecaster with the National Weather Service Office in Aberdeen…

According to the latest forecast models, the incoming storm system is expected to develop Friday morning and continue into early Saturday before exiting the regional area…

According to Mike, the approaching weather system is not expected to produce strong or intense wind gusts, which will be a good thing for those who may be out traveling this weekend…


Areas of eastern South Dakota south of Highway 212 will be under a winter weather advisory throughout most of Friday heading into early Saturday. Areas north of Highway 212 again are not expected to be impacted by the latest storm system.
