House Fire Reported in Clear Lake

An area firefighter was injured while battling a house fire in wintry conditions early this (Tuesday) morning.

According to the Deuel County Sheriff’s Office, a member of the Clear Lake Fire Department was at the scene of a house fire in town when he slipped on a patch of ice and dislocated his shoulder.

The fire call came in at around 6:15 a.m. No one was at home when the fire broke out.

The Gary Fire Department was called in, as well, to provide mutual aid. They were on the scene for approximately two hours.

The injured firefighter was taken to Sanford Hospital in Clear Lake where he was treated and released.

The fire is believed to have started in the basement area with the blaze eventually spreading to the remainder of the home.

Other agencies who assisted at the scene included the Deuel County Ambulance, Deuel County Emergency Management, Deuel County Sheriff’s Office and the South Dakota Fire Marshal’s Office.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Clear Lake Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
