Names of Victim, Suspect Released in Watertown Fatal Stabbing

Authorities in Codington County have released the names of the victim and the suspect involved in a fatal stabbing last (Monday) night at a Watertown area mobile home park.

At around 9:30 p.m., Codington County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a mobile home park just off West Highway 212 for a reported stabbing.

When deputies arrived, they discovered that 28-year-old Kristopher Spotts of Watertown had been stabbed multiple times by another man, who was said to be an acquaintance.

Spotts was taken to Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown where he died from his injuries.

The suspect, 38-year-old Jeremy Steinberg of Watertown was arrested by sheriff’s deputies earlier today (Tuesday) without incident.

Steinberg is charged with Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault. He’s being held in the Codington County Detention Center on $750,000 bond.

Authorities are also searching for two persons of interest in the case – Johnny Koenig Jr., 19 and Andres Morena, 19. Koenig is described as a Native American male, 6’2” tall and weighing 220 pounds who has lived in the Pierre area. They say Morena may also be Native American.
At this time, it is believed both men may be in the Huron area.
