Firefighters From Deuel County Respond to Two Separate Blazes on Saturday

Firefighters from Deuel County responded to two separate blazes during the day on Saturday.

The first fire call was reported at a rural farmstead near Goodwin.

Investigators say the landowner was conducting an open burn when some embers from the burn pit ignited some nearby bales of hay on fire. The fire then spread to some nearby tires and some equipment.

Fire departments from Goodwin, Clear Lake and Gary, as well as Deuel County Sheriff’s Office, Deuel County Emergency Management and the South Dakota Highway Patrol responded to the fire.

Area fire crews remained on the scene for several hours.

Area fire crews were also called to a report of another blaze on Saturday near Gary.

Investigators say embers from a burn pit ignited some nearby grass and trees on fire.

The Gary Fire Department responded to the call with additional assistance being provided by the
Deuel County Sheriff’s Office and Deuel County Emergency Management Department.

Local fire crews remained on the scene for several hours.

No injuries were reported in either incident.
