The Milbank Kiwanis Club has announced the top winners for the organization’s annual “Car on Ice” contest.

More than 300 entries were submitted with Matt and Heidi Wellnitz winning this year’s top prize of $500.

The couple predicted the car would fall though the ice on Lake Hurley Pond on March 29th at 1:15 p.m. The car actually went through the ice at 1:34 p.m.

Two other people submitted guesses for a similar time frame that afternoon. Casey Wittrock predicted the car would break through the ice at 1 p.m. while Kathleen Holscher submitted a guess of 3:15 p.m. Each was awarded $50 in prize money. Five other people also submitted guesses for the correct day, as well.

Proceeds from this year’s “Car on Ice” contest will be donated to the Grant County Food Pantry.
