A Sisseton woman has died from injuries sustained in a single vehicle rollover accident in southeastern South Dakota.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on Sunday, May 13th shortly after 7 p.m. on U.S. Highway 81 north of Yankton.

The person who died in the crash has been identified as 21-year-old Lucille Casiano of Sisseton.

Authorities say Casiano was a passenger in a vehicle which was driven by 23-year-old Stephen Lufkins of Sisseton.

Investigators say Lufkins was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer SUV north on U.S. Highway 81 when the vehicle crossed the centerline and entered the southbound lane. He then met an oncoming vehicle, at which time he swerved and traveled into the west ditch where the SUV rolled before coming to rest.

The occupants of the SUV were both ejected from the vehicle.

Casiano was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Lufkins was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Yankton for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

Charges are pending against Lufkins, the driver of the SUV.

The accident is being investigated by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
