Watertown Woman Ordered to Serve Time in Jail; Pay Restitution in Financial Elder Abuse Case

A Watertown woman will spend about two months in jail and pay approximately $26,000 in restitution for her involvement in an elder financial abuse scheme.

The South Dakota Attorney General”s Office says 60-year-old Barbara Lingenfelter used her mother’s assets for personal gain and failed to provide for her mother’s nursing care while having power of attorney.

In April, Lingenfelter pleaded guilty to fraud and theft charges in connection with the case.

She was sentenced earlier this month.
