Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook May Miss Season Opener Following Knee Surgery

Oklahoma City Thunder player Russell Westbrook underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Wednesday and could miss Oklahoma’s season opener against the Golden State Warriors. It will definitely keep Westbrook out of the team’s training camp later this month and it’s likely to sideline him for the entire pre-season schedule. Westbrook felt stiffness in the knee last week and opted for the surgery, described as “maintenance,” as a preemptive measure. This is, however, the fourth surgery Westbrook has had on his right knee. He tore his meniscus in the 2013 postseason and over the next eight months had three surgeries on the knee.  The Thunder have stated he will be re-evaluated in four weeks to determine when he is likely to return.
