A jury trial will be held for three Waubay residents facing felony drug charges following a May traffic stop in Grant County in which more than 20-thousand dollars worth of marijuana was seized.

A preliminary hearing was held yesterday (Monday) for 27-year-old Cody Gill, 26-year-old Jordin Gill and 30-year-old Steven Owen. The three defendants each pleaded not guilty and the presiding judge ordered that the cases be continued to August 8th, at which time a scheduling hearing is expected to be held for a pending jury trial.

All three suspects have been formally charged with having possession of one pound or more of marijuana with intent to deliver. Steve Owen has also been formally charged with false representation with intent to deceive a law enforcement officer by providing a false name in order to avoid prosecution.

The charges stem from a traffic stop initiated by Grant County Sheriff’s deputies on May 13th near Big Stone City, at which time approximately four pounds of high grade marijuana was discovered inside the suspect’s vehicle.
