Codington County Fatal Accident Victim Identified by Area Law Enforcement Authorities

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has released new information about an accident that occurred late last week near Watertown in which a woman was killed after being struck by a pickup truck.

Investigators say the accident occurred at around 9:45 p.m. Thursday night at the intersection of
U.S. Highway 212 and 39th Street two miles west of town.

The person who died in the accident has been identified as 28-year-old Whitney Hopkins of Waubay.

The state patrol says a 2012 Ford F-350 pickup was traveling eastbound in the passing lane of Highway 212 when the driver saw something along the shoulder of the road. The driver applied his brakes, but struck the woman, who had entered the roadway. The victim was transported to a Watertown Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup, 52-year-old Todd Good of Watertown was not injured and was not charged by investigating officers after the crash.
