Authorities in Codington County have released more information about an incident that occurred last (Tuesday) night in which a pickup truck crashed through the ice on Lake Kampeska near Watertown.

Watertown Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to the area located just north and west of the corporate city limits shortly before 10:30 p.m.

Local rescue crews located the vehicle and its occupants a short time after arrival.

The driver of the pickup was identified as Evan Waba of Watertown. Waba was taken to Prairie Lakes Healthcare System in Watertown for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

Two Codington County Search and Rescue members had ventured out onto the lake and were standing on the hood of the pickup truck when the ice collapsed causing the vehicle to fall through to the bottom of the lake.

Waba, along with the two search and rescue members, were all pulled from the lake a short time later and taken to shore where they were treated with Waba then being transported to Prairie Lakes Healthcare System.
