Authorities in Day County say one person is missing after a fire early Friday morning at an apartment building in Andover.
At around 1:30 a.m., local fire crews were called to a four-unit apartment complex located in the 100 block of East 2nd Avenue. The fire was reported by a passerby who discovered smoke and flames coming from the building.
Authorities say the apartment where the fire occurred was occupied by a woman, but so far no one has been able to locate the woman, and at this time it’s still unclear whether the woman was actually inside the apartment when the fire broke out or whether she may be somewhere else. The apartment was totally consumed by the fire. Local authorities are currently working with family members and also monitoring the woman’s social media accounts in an effort to locate her.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Day County Sheriff’s Office, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the State Fire Marshal’s Office with assistance from ATF.
