An Aberdeen man charged with domestic aggravated assault against an Andover woman who recently died in an apartment fire has been granted a court appointed attorney.

Thirty-six-year-old Jose Rodriguez made an initial court appearance at the Day County Courthouse in Webster on Wednesday.

Court documents indicate Rodriguez brutally assaulted 25-year-old Tawny Rockwood of Andover sometime between December 1st, 2017 and February 8th, 2018.

Rockwood died in a fire at her Andover apartment on February 9th.

Rodriguez did request and was granted a court-appointed attorney based on information that was provided in an application that was filled out in Brown County in December.

Rodriguez remains in custody at this time.

His next court appearance is set for February 21st.
