A man charged in connection with a recent murder case in Watertown made a brief court appearance earlier today (Wednesday).

Donald Herron appeared for a motions hearing via closed circuit television from the Codington County Detention Center.

Herron is charged with Second Degree Murder and First Degree Manslaughter in the death of 30-year-old Seth Murray during the early morning of January 12th at a home on the city’s northwest side.

He has pleaded not guilty.

A preliminary investigation revealed Herron may have been playing around with a loaded handgun when the firearm accidentally discharged. Police say alcohol may also have been a factor in the shooting.

Herron is scheduled to go on trial in Codington County on August 6th. He remains in the Codington County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.
