Some anglers venturing out onto Big Stone Lake last (Sunday) evening had to scramble to safety after they fell though thin ice north of Mallard Point along the Minnesota side in Big Stone County.

It was reported the individuals involved had fallen through an area of ice into about 10 feet of water.

Local officials say the overall condition of the ice where the incident happened had changed throughout the course of the day and there was approximately 8 – 10 inches of bad ice in that area.

Local officials are advising the public that the ice is changing fast, and therefore, no travel is being recommended on the ice for the remainder of the ice season.
