The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has released the name of a motorcyclist who died Friday when the cycle he was driving collided with a pickup truck pulling a trailer west of Watertown.

The victim has been identified as 67-year-old Jimmy Westrud of Brooten, Minnesota.

The state patrol says Westrud was traveling west on U.S. Highway 212 when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle then crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound pickup truck and trailer operated by 51-year-old Roy French of Watertown.

Westrud, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the cycle. He later died from his injuries.

French, the driver of the pickup, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
