Fire Departments From Milbank and Big Stone City Respond to Rural House Fire Earlier This Week

Fire departments from Milbank and Big Stone City were dispatched to a house fire on Tuesday,
May 22nd at the Corey and Heather Veen residence located at 14427 479th Avenue.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the home with flames extending throughout the main level of the structure.

An investigation revealed the fire originated in the laundry/bathroom area and then spread throughout an adjacent hallway.

Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading to other areas of the home.

Many personal items were salvaged, but the house itself sustained considerable fire, smoke and water damage.

The occupants of the home were not injured, but two pets being kept inside the home both died in the fire.

Firefighters remained on the scene for about two hours.

Other agencies providing assistance included the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Grant County Emergency Management and the American Red Cross.
