Law enforcement authorities in Watertown have arrested a Minnesota man who they say tried to kidnap a four-year-old girl from a retail store where he was working.

Thirty-five-year-old Peter Groenhoff of Canby, Minnesota has been formally charged with Second Degree Kidnapping following an incident which occurred Sunday afternoon at a local Menard’s store.

Police say Groenhoff alledgedly attempted to lure the girl away from her parents without permission while the family was inside the store. The girl’s father then followed Groenhoff into an employee break area, where some Menard’s staff members held Groenhoff until police arrived on the scene.

Groenhoff is currently being held in the Codington County Dentention Center on $20,000 cash bond.
