Legislative Veteran Susan Wismer to Move From South Dakota House of Representatives to the Senate in 2019

A prominent legislator from northeastern South Dakota will moving from the State House of Representatives to the Senate in 2019.

Susan Wismer of Britton won a contested Democratic primary election for Senate District One on June 5th.

No Republican or Independent candidates filed for the District One Senate seat which means Wismer automatically wins the district.

The District One Senate position was previously held by Jason Frerichs of Wilmot, who has already served the maximum number of terms allowed, and therefore is not eligible for re-election.

Wismer served in the South Dakota House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014 and was the Democratic nominee for Governor in 2014.

Senate District One includes Brown, Day, Marshall and Roberts counties in northeastern South Dakota.
