South Dakota Highway Patrol Investigating Single Vehicle Rollover Accident in Day County

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating a single vehicle rollover accident in Day County in which two people suffered life threatening injuries.

Officials say the accident happened Wednesday morning on U.S. Highway 12 near Webster.

Investigators say a 1997 Chevy Blazer was traveling westbound on Highway 12 when the vehicle entered the median, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle then tipped over and rolled multiple times before coming to rest.

The 27-year-old male driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. The driver, and a 43-year-old male passenger were initially transported to Sanford Medical Center in Webster being later being airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital with life threatening injuries.

So far, no names have been released. The accident remains under investigation with charges pending against the driver of the SUV.
